Snorkelling in Ibiza and Formentera: must-see places

If you want to discover some of the most paradisiacal corners of Ibiza and Formentera, you're in the right place! Renting a boat will allow you to snorkel in incredible places. We recommend some of our favourites in this article.

This nautical activity is one of the most special you can do in the Pitiusas Islands for several reasons. The first one is, of course, the possibility of practising sport during your holidays, but it is not the only one!

Getting to know the hundreds of marine species (flora and fauna) that inhabit our waters is another one of them. We assure you that the views are spectacular... Finally, it's worth mentioning that snorkelling in Ibiza and Formentera will allow you to enjoy the nature reserves and parks at first hand.

Without further ado, let's see where you can go snorkelling!

Where to snorkel in Ibiza

If there is one characteristic that defines Ibiza's seabed, it is the presence of Posidonia oceanica. This living being (one of the largest on the planet), as well as being protected by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, is home to an impressive wealth of underwater forests.

There are a multitude of beaches and coves in Ibiza to enjoy snorkelling, but if we had to make a selection, we are sure that the ones we share with you below would be a "must" on the list of places to snorkel in Ibiza:

  • Es Bol Nou (San José). Erroneously known as Sa Caleta, this beach is ideal for snorkelling on a calm summer's day..
  • Porroig (San José). A natural harbour where the fishermen's cottages are the protagonists, not very frequented and with a very lively seabed..
  • Punta Galera (San Antonio). A spectacular spot, little frequented due to its relatively difficult access..
  • Cala Xarraca (San Juan). All the charm of the north of Ibiza in an idyllic cove, with transparent and calm waters perfect for snorkelling..
  • Platges de Comte (San José). A group of coves popularly known as Cala Conta are very popular for snorkelling due to the transparency of their waters..
  • S'Estanyol (Ibiza). Crystal clear and pure waters in a rocky cove very close to the village of Jesús, we recommend wearing special footwear to enter the sea..
Other equally valid options could be S'Illot d'en Renclí, Cala Aubarca, Puerto de San Miguel,... But now we move on to the smallest of the Pitiusas Islands..

Where to snorkel in Formentera

If you are in Formentera you must take the opportunity to snorkel: the transparency of its waters is unparalleled. Photo: Adobe Stock.

Formentera can also boast turquoise and crystalline waters. It is not by chance that it is considered by many to be "the little Mediterranean paradise". When it comes to snorkelling in Formentera, you also have many options.

The Ses Salines nature park (shared with Ibiza) is undoubtedly one of the great attractions, especially on the islet of S'Espalmador: this should be a must for all lovers of underwater sports. But you can't miss:

  • Illetes. You won't be in the Caribbean, but almost! It's hard to find clearer waters in which to discover all kinds of marine species..
  • Cala Saona. As popular as Illetes and with similar characteristics for snorkelling, you have to visit it, no matter what!.
  • Racó des Moro. Near Punta Pedrera, the end of the natural park. Protected area and very popular for snorkelling..
But beyond beaches and coves, from Ibiza Blue Line we recommend that you take a look at our article about the Caves of Formentera. Seeing the Punta Rasa Caves might make you want to go snorkelling in Formentera right now...
