Rent a boat in Ibiza. How to make your day perfect. Before the charter (1)

One of the best options to discover incredible corners of Ibiza and Formentera is by sea. By boat, you can travel along the coast and reach uncrowded coves, see spectacular landscapes... or simply let yourself be rocked by the waves while you sunbathe with a drink in your hand. Renting a boat is within everyone's reach. Do not miss this opportunity.

"Where do I start?" Before going to sea, you have to take into account several aspects: the price, the boat, the budget, the time, the charter agency, what is included in the price, etc. To make this task easier for you and to enjoy a safe charter, we will give you some tips below.

First of all, the only pleasure boats that can be legally chartered are those that are listed in 6th. Any other boat with a different list will be carrying out an illegal activity and, for example, in case of an accident the insurance would not cover the damages, among other problems that arise from this practice.

Secondly, it is very important to know what budget you have to rent the boat. Ibiza is one of the places in the world with more offer of charter boats and there are options for all pockets. Keep in mind that the bigger the boat, the higher the price. Check out what the price includes. Fuel and skipper are not usually included in the rental of small boats; medium and large boats usually include them, although not always. In addition, extra services (nautical toys, catering, etc.) are not usually included.

On the other hand, knowing the number of people who will be on the boat is crucial for choosing one model or another. The maximum capacity of people on board is 12, including adults, children, babies and the skipper (in case you need to hire his services). However, sometimes, medium and large size boats have the skipper and part of the crew enrolled and do not count for maximum capacity.

To pilot a boat you must have the necessary qualification (see Recreational boating licenses), otherwise you must hire the services of a professional skipper. As we have already mentioned, the skipper's fees (which vary according to the company) are not usually included in the final price, but, again, it will depend on the length of the boat, since medium and large size boats the skipper is included in the price. We advise you to get well informed beforehand to avoid surprises and disappointments.

"So, which boat do I choose?" You have a great variety of options at your disposal: sailboat or motorboat, inboard or outboard, inflatable or rigid... A wide range of possibilities that depends on you. Our advice. Choose a boat that fits your possibilities, where you and your companions are comfortable. The year of construction is important in a boat, but even more important is the state of conservation (upholstery, hull, various extras such as refrigerators, radio, plotter ...), as well as the performance of the engine. If it is not a very new boat (less than 4-3 years) it is important that you check the date of the last refit. In this aspect, we also advise you to read the comments of other customers about the boat and the owner (shipowner).

Finally, the embarkation point is one of the aspects that are often overlooked when renting a boat. There are two ways to have a boat in the water: in a mooring or in a buoy (which can be legal, there are very few, or illegal, the vast majority). The rents of boats in buoy are cheaper than the rents of boats in a mooring, but not for it it is the best thing for the client. To be able to embark from a mooring in a port guarantees you agility, comfort and security, besides having the services that the marina puts at your disposal: parking, bathrooms, drinking water, electricity, bars, restaurants... The access to a boat anchored in a buoy is always difficult and dangerous, especially in case of bad sea or if there are minors or people with mobility problems on board. For all these reasons, we always recommend you to rent a boat that is moored. Sometimes, paying a little more is the difference to start your day at sea on the right foot.
